6:45 - 8:30pm
Picture
About This Event:
A Hip Hop Fusion Class curated to expand your movement, explore yourself, and have a little cardio workout all the while simultaneously learning some fun Hip Hop Fusion moves that you can take with you any and everywhere. Workout by working it! Not to mention, there will be drinks to loosen you up, and make this an experience you just can't miss out on!

Meet The Artist:
Kiana Davalos is a self taught international dancer, choreographer, and creative director from Yonkers, New York. Her passion and love for dance began ever since she could walk, and carried on throughout her life since. Without the luxury of being able to take classes when she was young, she took matters into her own hands and made "something out of nothing." At the age of 13, when she first began, she did everything from performing at local events for the community and teaching free classes to the youth, to just simply dancing for herself within the comforts of her own home. Today, that same passion and drive to share and learn has opened some amazing opportunities to travel, perform and teach master workshops all over the world in places such as Canada, Iceland, Puerto Rico and even an International 7 month tour throughout China as head choreographer, artistic director and performer. Kiana has also been featured in Paper Magazine, Complex Magazine, New York Times, International Dance Battles, and World of Dance. As well as worked alongside some amazing sponsors such as Snipes, Sprayground, Contra, Woxer, Staple Pigeon, NBA sports wear, and artists such as TKAY, 070 Shake, Annalise Azadian, Justin Love, Wiz Kid, Akon, and Jadakiss. Kiana uses her networking ability, and passion for dance and the arts to reach out to different people of all sorts of artistic genres to exchange and collaborate. Working with others has pushed Kiana to create in more ways than just dance- it led her to branch out into other fields and develop her own brand and company in which includes Videography, Photography, Fashion, and creative direction. Constantly driven, and inspired by her past and present, Kiana decided to make something that meant more than just a brand, she created a Lifestyle.

About This Event:
Feel the fire of Flamenco and learn how to stomp out some fast, fancy footwork!  Fizzy Flamenco will be a fun and lively session teaching the basics of Flamenco dance, including rhythmic hand-clapping, and the prototypical "zapateo" (footwork).  You'll be sure to spin on home with the passion that lies at the heart of this Spanish art, and with the ability to perform/dance a bit of Flamenco that will make family and friends shout out, "OLE!"

Meet The Artist:
Rebeca began her formal dance training in Granada, Spain and later moved to Madrid, where she studied at the renowned Flamenco Academy Amor de Dios.  In 2006, she settled in New York and began performing with U.S.-based companies such as Flamenco Vivo and Noche Flamenca.  In 2010, she founded her own company, A Palo Seco, for which she continues to direct and choreograph.  For her choreographic work, Tomas has received support from Arts Westchester, Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, the Jerome Foundation, Connecticut Office of the Arts, the CUNY Dance Initiative, and she is a two-time recipient of the NYFA Fellowship in Choreography (2013 & 2019).  She was selected by Arts Westchester as one of 50 top artists in Westchester County, and she received first place at the XIII Concurso Nacional de Flamenco in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  Her past projects include Lincoln Center's “Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown,” R.evolución Latina's Choreographer's Festival, and Yaron Zilberman’s “A Late Quartet.”  Described as “awesomely fiery” (NYTimes) and “a postcard image of the feminine Flamenco dancer” (Kansas City Metropolis), she has performed throughout the U.S. at venues such as NY SummerStage, (le) Poisson Rouge, the Chicago Flamenco Festival, Eastman School of Music, the Pocantico Center (Rockefeller Brothers Fund), Flushing Town Hall, the New Victory Theater, Wolftrap, and the Hollywood Bowl.  A firm believer in Arts-Education, she conducts workshops, residencies, and Lecture Demonstrations to students of all ages and backgrounds throughout the country.

After undergrad she performed with Bollywood Beats throughout CT and NY. She performed with Nootana for a few years, a DC based Indian dance and music collaborative performance group, showing her abhinaya skills. She has been teaching and performing with Mayura Dance Academy, based in Westchester County that serves NY and CT area, for the past 6 years. She choreographs and teaches wedding routines in various styles as well as teaching private classes. She has performed for the Scarsdale Highschool multicultural event as well as the Pepsi Co Diwali celebrations for staff. She continues to learn Bharatanatyam through the Navatman Dance School and via various master workshops, kathak through Leela Dance Academy and workshops, hip hop, lyrical and fusion. She has performed with different groups and solo throughout the US and abroad. She was a dance cast member of Navatman’s theater production of The Mahabharata Part 1: of Vengeance and Promises in 2019 portraying the characters of Shantanu and Yudishthira. In 2021 she acted and danced in Navatman’s first feature film production of the Mahabharata Part 1: of Vengeance and Promises as the characters of Bhishma, Devaki, King Drupada, and an apsara. During the day she works as a biomedical engineer/manager for one of the top hospitals in NYC, New York Presbyterian Hospital. She has her BS in mechanical engineering from Penn State and her MS in biomedical engineering from CUNY City College of NY. Dance holds a special place in Samantha's heart, it is her passion. She is extremely happy to continue dancing and creating new pieces while sharing her joy with her students as she watches them grow as dancers.
