About This Workshop:
This open level tap workshop will be a high energy class, brushing up on technique and learning some new material, all while exploring each dancer's artistic style. Come join our TAP FAM!
Meet the Artist:
Alex Martin is a dancer, choreographer and educator with a BFA in Dance from Wayne State University. Originally from Michigan, she relocated to NYC post-graduation and has worked with numerous companies, including The American Tap Dance Foundation, Evolve Dance, John Zullo/Raw Movement, and Nicholas Leichter Dance. Alex was an Administrative Assistant with Dorrance Dance for several years and has worked with The American Tap Dance Foundation for over 15 years as a festival coordinator and intern director. Currently, Alex devotes her time teaching over 40 classes per week throughout New York, including movement classes at two Special Education schools and is the Artistic Director of the MK Dance Company and Project Manager at Rivertown Dance Academy.

This workshop is designed for dancers looking to build the basic techniques of contemporary floorwork. During this workshop, you will explore how to use the physicality of your body to connect with gravity and utilize the floor as a dancing partner. We will go in and out of the floor with ease, rolling and falling. We will work on shoulder stands, backwards rolls, and suspended movement into the floor. Class will start with a floor warm-up and will end with a phrase that utilizes skills learned during the workshop.
Meet the Artist:
Rebecca Hite received her MFA in dance choreography/performance from Smith College, and her BA in dance from Connecticut College. She has interned with BoSoma Dance of Boston, MA and Parsons Dance of New York City, and was fortunate enough to spend five months in Sydney, Australia studying Graham technique and dance composition. Rebecca has performed works by renowned artists such as David Dorfman, Lisa Race, Heidi Henderson, Adele Myers, Nicholas Leichter, Jeremy Nelson, Wally Cardona, and Monica Bill Barnes. She has taught at Smith College; Amherst College; the American College Dance Festival’s New England Region; Middle School 217 in Briarwood, Queens; and at multiple New York-based dance studios and senior centers. Rebecca has performed with The Feath3r Theory under the artistic direction of Raja Kelly; Naomi Goldberg Haas/Dances for a Variable Population; MachineH Dance; and is co-creator and co-artistic director of Reject Dance Theatre. She obtained her Pilates Mat certification through Equinox Fitness. Rebecca's work has been presented at Triskelion Arts in Brooklyn, NY; Built on Stilts Festival in Martha’s Vineyard, MA; MixMatch Dance Festival in Los Angeles, California; Trinity Repertory Theater in Providence, RI; the Astoria Dance Festival in Astoria, NY; The Manhattan Movement and Arts Center; plus many more.
